This 40,000 square feet administrative building for a university in Pune reinterprets classical architectural language through a contemporary lens. Drawing from European classical proportions and colonial Indian influences, the design weaves together subtle references to Art Deco and early institutional architecture to create a refined and contextual academic environment. The project explores a restrained form of maximalism, where ornamentation is layered, delicate, and purposeful. Arched compositions, classical patterns, and sculpted surfaces are carefully integrated with modern detailing, allowing historical references to coexist with contemporary spatial sensibilities. A rich material palette and controlled contrasts lend the interiors depth, warmth, and clarity. Public and administrative spaces unfold through composed volumes shaped by natural light, symmetry, and proportion. Colonnades, double-height zones, and framed views establish rhythm and scale, while softer interior spaces offer moments of pause and interaction. The building seeks to balance memory and modernity, crafting an institutional identity that feels dignified, timeless, and quietly expressive.
